I have written for various markets including television, radio and the stage but now focus on historical nautical fiction with twenty published novels. The majority of these are in my acclaimed ‘Fighting Sail’ series that centres on the British navy of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Other work covers smuggling on the south coast of England during that period. My ‘Coastal Forces’ series offers an insight into the ‘small ship’ navy of WW2; the light, powerful but ultimately vulnerable gun and torpedo boats that did battle in Britain’s home waters
I live in Sussex, am married, and have two far taller sons. Apart from researching nautical history I enjoy cycling (in gumboots, rather than lycra), sailing and carpentry as well as jazz, blues, swing, and dance band music from the thirties onwards. I also play a variety of musical instruments and collect 78 rpm records.
